Our Mission
Boyertown Area Creative Housing (BACH) provides transitional housing and support for families in the Boyertown Area who are homeless or near homeless. In addition to providing housing, BACH's goal is to equip parents with skills that will enable them to better provide for their families when they leave the program. As a result, parents are required to seek further education or job training while in residence at the BACH house.
BACH serves the same geographic area as Boyertown Area Multi-Service, and the two organizations work closely together to ensure the success of BACH's program goals. The BACH program is important to the community because it addresses homelessness head-on and attempts to break the cycle of poverty for single parent families. We provide more than just cheap emergency housing. We provide case management, a support committee, and funds to help a family succeed over the long term. |
History
In the early 1990s, the leadership of Multi-Service recognized a need for transitional housing for homeless and near homeless families in the Boyertown Area. As a result, Boyertown Area Creative Housing was founded in 1991. Various community organizations, including the Boyertown schools, helped to raise funds with which to purchase the BACH house.
The house, with two apartments, was first occupied in 1993. Since that time, the apartments have provided a home for 20 single parents and 37 children.

How Bach Operates
BACH program families are identified through Multi-Service, where local churches and other organizations are also invited to pass along recommendations for potential families. After reviewing all applications, Multi-Service selects possible candidates for the program. A committee made up of members of the BACH board of directors then meets with the families for interviews. Following the interviews, the two organizations make a joint decision about which families will be selected for the BACH program.
Once a family is in residence at the BACH house, Multi Service provides a caseworker to assist the family. BACH provides a committee made up of BACH board members to work with each family. The goal is to help the families adjust to the program and to be successful in all areas of their lives during their stay at the house. Multi-Service and BACH work together to ensure that family needs are met.
Families may live at the BACH house for a period up to three years.
